Gingerbread Houses

That's what we're making at our next cooking group on Wednesday, December 2 at 7 PM at Amy's house. My first time making a gingerbread house from scratch I was sure I was going to mess it up but it was much easier than I thought. And to be able to chat with other sisters while decorating your house the way you want is so much fun. The recipe and further info can be found here. If you don't already have a pattern, pick one up for a house or sleigh from me (Heather R.) or Alexis N. We will have a some extras made so if you don't get the chance to bake some gingerbread...and enjoy the delicious aroma in your home while doing so, come anyway! Bring a bag of candy to share...for decorating...but I'm not promising I won't eat any.

Life will be better for you

That is the promise from President Hinckley if you attend the temple and this Saturday there is a great opportunity for that! Our Stake will be meeting at 4:30 in the Instruction Room at the temple (ask any temple worker and they can show you where that is) then we will go through the 5:00 endowment session.

Tis the Season

Deseret Industries is requesting items for Christmas gifts for 10-13 year old boys and girls. Please give your donations--new and unwrapped--to a member of the RS Presidency by November 29.

We've also been asked to provide stocking stuffers for our dedicated missionaries. If you have any of the following items to donate, it would be greatly appreciated...

Stamps/envelopes/stationary, Shaving supplies, Toiletries, Bicycle light, Reflective Armband, Approved Books—i.e. Mormon Doctrine, Photos, Winter wear: hats, gloves, scarves, socks, thermal garments, and/or thermal underwear, Approved Music (please ask a RS Presidency member and we can give you the list), Hot Chocolate Mix, Hot Cider Mix.

Gobble Gobble

For those who don't have a husband around this Thanksgiving, you can join the Deployed Spouses Group for a yummy dinner and good company. It will be at the Four Chaplains Memorial Chapel at 2:00 pm. Turkey and rolls will be provided. Please contact Trina if you plan to attend. You can bring your favorite festive food to share and a game or activity for the kids to do.

A Few Changes...

Things come up sometimes and plans have to change. Regretfully, this has happened with Sister Sheri Dew who is going to need to reschedule her speaking engagement with us. As of right now a new date has not been decided on. We'll keep you posted.

You may notice that we've changed the lesson schedule for this coming Sunday to make up the lesson we missed when Elder Perry came. Click on the link to read it.

Shepherding Night

Meet Wednesday night at 7 PM at the DuPont Park 'n Ride for Shepherding Night. This is a great opportunity to meet other sisters and build unity within our Relief Society. In the words of Sister Silvia H. Allred, first counselor in the General RS Presidency, "It is through you that God’s perfect love for each and all of His children is made manifest."

Do Re Me So Fa La Teeeeeeeee...........

Since our ward currently has no choir director, Esther S. and Michelle S. have picked some great music to learn. This is not an official RS group, just women that love to sing. If you are interested, Esther will be holding practices at her house at 3 PM on Sundays.

The Chili Showdown

Friday, November 20 at 6:00 PM is our Ward Chili Cook Off at the church. If you're up for the challenge please bring your best pot of chili. Otherwise please bring a salad or a side dish. We need anything that will go with chili--corn casseroles, cornbread, tater tots, rice, green salad, or veggie trays. Watch for the sign up on Sunday. Come dressed in your western wear...to the cook off, not to church Sunday...just wanted to make that clear.

Project Group

We're happy to see such an interest in starting a project group so here goes. Our first meeting will be Thursday, November 12 at 7 PM at Amy S.'s house. Feel free to bring any Super Saturday crafts that may not be finished.

If you are ultra organized and never have unfinished projects but would like to come anyway, we'd love to have you! We may have projects from time to time for everyone to work on (like quilts for the D.I.-- they're asking each ward for 7). Either way this is a fun opportunity to learn skills from each other and have fun getting to know each other at the same time.

Your Attendance is Kneaded

Boo! Bad post title! But don't let that stop you from coming to cooking group this Wednesday at Tara L.'s house at 7 PM. Sarah A. will be demonstrating how to make rolls. There will be samples of course so if you have a great jam recipe that you'd like to share, bring it along but don't feel obligated to bring anything! Just come! Besides, Thanksgiving is around the corner and you have to have homemade rolls for Thanksgiving. (I personally am not very thankful for store bought rolls.)

It's Almost Here!

Only five more days until Super Saturday. Here are a few updates...

If you signed up for dish etching, you need to know that some Pyrex dishes don't etch. The only way of knowing is by testing it. If your dishes are Pyrex you may want to test a little spot on Saturday to see if it works. You have one shot with the vinyl template. You might want to bring a back up dish.

If other options are exhausted and you are planning on taking advantage of the childcare, please be aware that our resources are limited and it is a long time for children to stay in the nursery. We will do our best to mix things up and help the children to have a good time but our resourses are limited. If your children will be there during lunch time please pack a sack lunch for them.

We have 15 extra nativities available for $15 each until they're gone.

Stake Conference

Stake Conference? But we just had it. This is what you may be saying to yourself. Well, we have the amazing opportunity this coming Sunday to hear from an apostle of the Lord. Elder L. Tom Perry is coming to speak to us. In our building! (I think our family will be camping out in a tent by the front door Saturday night. Just kidding...but seriously, you may want to get there early.)

Shepherding Night

That's right. We are starting another group. We feel this is vitally important. Every third Wednesday of the month we will be going out to find the sisters in our ward who may need help and support. This is what Relief Society is all about. Please mark your calendars. The number of sisters we find depends on it.

Service Opportunity

Help is needed at the Bishop's Storehouse on November 4 and 18 from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM to fill food orders. Please contact us if you are available to help.
